There are countless exercise programs and gadgets for you to buy. The Fitness industry generates 80 billion globally every year. Millions of people are looking for ways to get in shape and plenty of gurus are busy inventing new and exciting ways to profit from that. We all know the trope of the before and after picture and the infomercial with the “amazing results.” The reality is there’s no money in just telling people to eat healthy and exercise consistently. But that’s what actually matters.

I don’t say this to discredit the efficacy of those programs or gadgets. I’m sure many of them work very well. My point is, it won’t matter how effective your fitness program is if you don’t keep at it. It won’t matter how hard you push yourself, if you only do it once. The only way to get real results is to be consistent and the best way to be consistent is to find a workout you actually want to do.

That’s why I like video game fitness. The emphasis is on being motivated to have fun in the present. I recognize that I’m probably not going to play Ring Fit forever, but as of right now I can’t wait to get through all the extras. When I finish up with Ringfit, I’ll move on to another fitness game or maybe go back to an old favorite. I don’t really care what it is as long as I don’t stop exercising all together.

Just for fun, here’s a list of 10 exercise programs/ gadgets that have mostly gone the way of the dodo.
